Letters to a Pre-Scientist

LPS is an organization that pairs students from high-poverty schools with scientists across the country to demystify STEM careers, allow students to see themselves reflected in science careers, and break down barriers to higher education. Click the photo to learn more, donate, or be a pen pal.

 

Pride in STEM

Pride in STEM aims to raise the profile of LGBTQ+ people in STEM fields, as well as highlight the struggles LGBTQ+ people in STEM often face. They are a charitable trust run by an independent group of LGBTQ+ scientists and engineers from around the world.

Black in Neuro is an international organization which aims to support Black neuroscientists in higher education. They offer amazing webinars and resources on their website, as well as events to bring the community together.

 

Científico Latino

Científico Latino aims to help undergraduate, graduate, and professional students by providing mentorship, open-access resources on scholarships, fellowships, and blog posts on professional development.

 

Disabled in STEM

Disabled in STEM Twitter and this organization’s website is endless sources of validation, community, and resources for Disabled scholars. It is a safe space for those with disabilities or chronic illnesses and for those who are neurodiverse to seek advice from each other and share resources to help each other succeed. Skype a Scientist is an organization that brings scientists to K-12 students without having to leave the lab! Minorities in STEM

The aim of Minorities in STEM is to create a network that can connect, support, and showcase the individuals working and studying within STEM. Minorities in STEM works with other organizations and industry partners to help them begin to have conversations that are required to address diversity issues.

Girls Inc.

Girls Inc. is a national nonprofit that serves girls ages 6-18 at more than 1,500 sites in 350 cities across the United States and Canada. Their research-based programming is delivered by trained professionals who focus on the development of the whole girl, supporting, mentoring, and guiding girls in an affirming, pro-girl environment. These programs offer research-based approaches that help girls navigate social, economic, and gender barriers to be healthy, confident girls. Project Biodiversity

Project Biodiversify is an amazing website that offers teaching materials and methods aimed at increasing diversity in science teaching. This work is funded by an NSF Postdoctoral Award aimed at increasing underrepresented students in STEM. They promote themselves as an online space that promotes the humanization, diversification, and inclusivity of biology classrooms. 500 Queer Scientists

500 Queer Scientists is a visibility campaign for LGBTQ+ people and their allies working in STEM and STEM-supporting jobs - a group that collectively represents a powerful force of scientific progress and discovery. They have farrrrr exceeded 500 by now! This platform is a great way to find and connect with queer* STEM professionals. You will even find some of our own MUSE mentors and mentees on there.
